What safety steps are in place to protect against COVID-19?
A face mask will be worn by your therapist all times and face masks are recommended but not required for clients. Your therapist will verbally confirm that you have been symptom free for the last 14 days. As well as a thorough cleaning of all surfaces before and after each appointment with clean fresh sheets for each new client. Where will my massage session take place?
In Studio: Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Some music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table designed especially for your comfort. Almost all things can be adjusted at your request. In Home: Tori will set up in a room in your home, with space enough for their table and room to walk around it. Tori will do their best to make the space quiet and comfortable. You may play your own music or Tori can play some from their device. Almost all things can be adjusted at your request. Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you prefer to wear and you should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session, so only the area being worked on will be uncovered. Tori is happy to accommodate every level of comfort, if you have a specific request or question you are welcome to reach out for more information. Will the massage therapist be present when I disrobe?
After discussing your needs and making a session plan Tori will leave the room to wash their hands, giving you plenty of time to undress to your comfort level, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet and blanket. Tori will always verbally confirm that you are ready before entering the room again. Will I be covered up during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times with a clean sheet and blanket, to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered, unless otherwise discussed. Tori can work through most clothes or the sheet if you would prefer to stay covered. What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session can include work on your face, scalp, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, abdomen, legs, feet and back. Before the start of your session Tori will discuss with you which areas you want to work on or avoid in your session. Every massage is unique to the needs/wants of the client. Tori will always discuss the plan of massage and areas to be worked on at the start of each session, and clients are encouraged to provide feedback throughout their massage to make it the most comfortable experience for them. What will the massage feel like?
A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Tori will use a light oil to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil can also help hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage is most effective when your body becomes relaxed and you muscles are not resisting. Are there different kinds of massage?
There are numerous types of massage; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. Tori will discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you, and you are aways welcome to ask questions about techniques being used in your massage. What should I do during the massage session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask Tori any questions about the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. Tori will either gently move your limbs or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm or turning over). Many people will close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. Tori also enjoys conversations with their clients if you would like to talk, you are always welcome to change your mind and end the conversation to rest. Some clients also fall asleep, which is wonderful, but if you would prefer to stay awake you can mention this to Tori and they will help make a plan to support that request. Tori is happy to accommodate most needs so please let them know your needs before or during the session. How will I feel after the massage session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Occasionally clients can feel sore for a few days, this is completely normal but can be frustrating, if you have experienced this with past massage or are worried about it please mention it to Tori and they can adjust technique and give post massage care suggestions. If soreness is persistent or actively painful after your session please reach out to Tori so they can make notes and help recommend next steps. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MASSAGE?
Massage can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure.
